All-Day Dining, Flexible Event Dining, Private Dining Zones, Open Seating Areas, Service & Operational Blocks, Landscape Integration, Multi-Use Hospitality Space
Component: All-Day Dining, Flexible Event Dining, Private Dining Zones, Open Seating Areas, Service & Operational
Key Highlights
• Designed as a seamless expansion of The Firefly property, ensuring architectural continuity while introducing a distinct new hospitality identity.
• Roof geometry inspired by the movement of cascading rainwater, creating a sculptural form that simultaneously evokes the lightness of a moth or butterfly resting within the landscape.
• Spatial organization developed around hospitality flexibility — enabling the restaurant to transition effortlessly between intimate dining, large gatherings, private events, celebrations, and day-to-day operations.
• Curvilinear planning softens movement through the restaurant while naturally defining seating clusters, privacy gradients, and circulation sequences without rigid compartmentalization.
• Deep overhangs, elevated roof edges, and breathable spatial transitions respond directly to Assam’s heavy rainfall, humidity, and tropical climatic conditions.
• Interior environments were intentionally designed to feel luminous, fluid, and socially engaging rather than enclosed or overly formal, strengthening the property’s hospitality character.
Project Narrative
Conceived as an expansion of The Firefly property in Guwahati, the restaurant was designed to strengthen the hospitality experience of the existing campus while resolving the operational limitations of the original setup. The project brings together dining, events, circulation, and service infrastructure within a singular architectural system that remains visually connected to the identity of The Firefly while introducing a more refined and versatile spatial language.
The planning was driven by flexibility and movement efficiency. The restaurant is capable of accommodating intimate dining, large gatherings, private celebrations, and everyday hospitality operations without disrupting circulation or service flow. Curved spatial planning and centrally positioned built volumes allow clear movement, uninterrupted views, and a stronger relationship between interior spaces and the surrounding landscape. Architecturally, the defining element of the project is the roofscape. Its cascading geometry draws inspiration from monsoon rainfall, creating a form that appears fluid and lightweight despite its scale. Simultaneously, the structure carries the softness of a butterfly-like form resting within the site, allowing the building to feel both expressive and environmentally rooted.
The design responds directly to Assam’s tropical climate through deep overhangs, breathable edges, elevated roof profiles, and naturally ventilated spaces that collectively manage rainfall, humidity, and thermal comfort. Internally, the restaurant remains open, airy, and visually connected, creating a hospitality environment that feels relaxed, socially engaging, and deeply integrated with its surroundings.
Rather than functioning as a conventional dining structure, the project was envisioned as a flexible hospitality landscape — one capable of adapting to changing modes of gathering while reinforcing the experiential identity of The Firefly.
